Shish Tawook Chicken with Garlic Aioli

Do you love garlic so much that spending an entire evening with garlic breath wouldn’t bother you? Like, can’t escape it no matter what you do garlic breath? If so, then this dish, it is for you!

I pinned this recipe from My Life as a Mrs. as soon as I saw it, being such a garlic lover, but have no idea why I waited so long! It is so garlicky, the chicken is super moist, and the cous cous with grilled veggies was a perfect side dish to balance it all out. Please, I beg of you, try this out!

The garlic aoli is the real culprit for the lasting garlic flavor, so if you’re scared, just scale back how much raw garlic you’re adding. I wouldn’t recommend on skimping with it in the marinade. This is the perfect, simple recipe to enjoy on a warm day where grilling seems like a must!

Shish Tawook Chicken with Garlic Aoli from My Life as a Mrs.

For the chicken

  • 3 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cubed into 1 1/2 inch cubes
  • 3/4 c greek yogurt
  • 1/4 c olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, pressed through a garlic press
  • 3 tbs tomato paste
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

For the garlic aoli

  • 1/2 c mayonnaise
  • 1/3 c greek yogurt
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, pressed through a garlic press
  • 1 tbs lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

I recommend purchasing a box of Israeli cous cous, cook according to package directions, and mixing with some grilled veggies as a side dish. No real recipe; I used peppers and onions and it was delicious!

For the chicken
Add all ingredients to a freezer bag and work the marinade around so it’s fully coating the chicken. Let marinade for at least 2 hours. (Mine ended up being just over an hour because I was starving – what’s new – but obviously longer is better!)

Preheat your grill to medium-high. Put the chicken pieces on skewers, oil your grill, and grill the kabobs for 3-6 minutes per side until the chicken is completely cooked. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

For the aoli

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and set aside until ready to use.

Hope you enjoy! I can’t wait to make this dish again and again this summer.
